In this quick assignment, we were instructed to edit and colorize photos in Photoshop. Some editing elements we used include ruler, crop, hue/saturation, copy and paste, and resizing the canvas. I learned a variety of helpful techniques in this assignment. Not only did I learn how to use the above tools, I feel much more confident with Photoshop and how to navigate it.

The subject I have chosen to focus on for my first shooting assignment is food. Baking is another one of my hobbies, and I think it'd be fun to combine the two. I also think food would be a good subject to test ISO on. Below are a few inspirational photos from the Internet. All of the photos above did an amazing job at conveying different composition techniques, such as color and balance. The photographers also did a great job positioning the food so it looks pretty and appealing.
Shutter SpeedIn this set of photos, I was hoping to convey motion blur v.s stopped action. The leftmost photo, the blurry one, has the longest shutter speed and is the brightest, while the last one has the shortest shutter speed and is the darkest. ApertureWhile it is difficult to tell from the pictures, I was trying to convey differences in aperture and their impact on photos. Photo #1 has the smallest aperture (the largest opening in the lens), therefore it is brighter and has a smaller depth of field. The last photo, however, has an aperture of 8, which means the opening is smaller, it is darker, and it has a wider depth of field. Larger apertures such as this one are used more for landscape photography, while smaller apertures are generally used for portrait photography.
In our first assignment, we learned about the various elements of composition, and how to incorporate them into our photographs. The 11 elements we learned are color, framing, lines, perspective, symmetry, pattern, texture, balance, space, depth of field, and the rule of thirds. Color Balance Depth of Field Framing Lines Pattern Rule of Thirds Perspective Space Symmetry Texture During this assignment, I learned a variety of things. Some of which include composition techniques, camera settings, and, last but not least, how to start a blog. The most interesting aspect of composition is the fact that most pictures don't only have one specific technique involved. For example, my picture of "space" could also be color. The hardest part was determining which picture most obviously showed which technique.
My name is Kaitlyn Eckermann, and I am in 9th grade at Saline High School. Currently, I participate in cross country, orchestra, track, and the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic. I also love to bake, write, and read. Before this class, the only photography experience I'd had was taking pictures with my phone. When I found out the high school offered a photography class, I was beyond eager to expand my horizons and try something new.
