This is my fifth shooting assignment, and I chose Light and Shadows. The weather was really bad over the weekend, so I wanted to take pictures indoors. The hardest part of this category, for me, was getting the correct exposure. The room was so dark, the camera had a hard time focusing. One thing I liked about this category was its versatility. Below are my best non-edited photo, the edited version, and the 5 next best photos. Original Photo Edited Photo
f/3.5, 1/50, ISO 400 In Photoshop, I increased the contrast, and decreased the brightness and exposure.

For this Photoshop assignment, I had to take several photos of the same person in different positions, in the same place. Then, I uploaded them to Photoshop and loaded all of them into a stack using the scripts tool. After that, I used the layer mask tool to reveal certain parts of the image. In this case, it was the different versions of my friend Lizzie. During this assignment, I learned how to use the stack and layer mask tools, and how to retouch it so everything is being seen.
Black and white is the category I used for my fourth shooting assignment. It is definitely one of my favorites, because changing a photo into black and white can give it a whole new feeling. I really enjoyed this assignment, and I'm positive I will take more black and white photos in the future. Original Photo Edited Photo
f/3.5, 1/500, ISO 100 Some other editing I did besides turning it to black and white includes contrast, exposure, and brightness. During this assignment, we were instructed to use Photoshop to edit a photo of our school, and put it into a different context. Some tools I used include selection, saturation, transparency, and paintbrush. This assignment was definitely like nothing I've ever done, and I hope to try it again sometime.
I chose to focus on still life as my third shooting assignment. This assignment was really fun to photograph, because I was able to set up the scene exactly how I wanted it to look. There were some complications, however. One of which was trying to get adequate lighting. Another was positioning the background so it covered the whole photo. f/3.5, 1/125, ISO 200
In Photoshop, I raised the brightness, contrast, saturation, and shadows. For this assignment, we were instructed to use Photomerge in Photoshop to "stitch" photos together into one wide photograph. Some tools that were used include a tripod, and the automate and Photomerge aspects in Photoshop. A few things that I learned are to set the camera to manual focus, keep the exposure around the same for each of the individual photos, and how to effectively use Photomerge.
This shooting assignment category was very fun to photograph. I loved taking photos of flowers, and I'm sure I'll take photos of them again in the future. One thing that was pretty difficult about this category was getting close to my subjects without blocking out the light. f/3.5, 1/100, ISO 200 Some of the editing I did in Photoshop includes raising the brightness, contrast, saturation, and highlights.
For this assignment, we were directed to use various tools in Photoshop to retouch a photo of a car. We had to crop it, darken the windshield, take away some of the bright spots, and erase the background. Some tools we used were crop, the clone tool, the selection tools, levels, and layers. Below is the original photograph, the edited version, and a two pictures of my own. During this assignment, I learned so many new things about Photoshop and its various tools. I enjoy using Photoshop, and I can't wait to see what our next assignment is.
The second category I've chosen to focus on is Macro. I really like the thought of revealing details not commonly noticed or seen, and I believe I can learn a lot from it. A few inspirational photos from the Internet are below: All four of the images above did an amazing job at catching the eye and focusing in on small details people generally don't see.
For this assignment, I had two different subjects. I also learned a few things while photographing them. The lighting in my kitchen was awful, so I ended up holding a light over the subjects to better illuminate them. One of my favorite parts of shooting this assignment would probably be setting the subject up to look a certain way. f/3.5, 1/25, ISO 200
Some editing I did to the photo includes raising the brightness and contrast, and making it more vibrant. |
